Title: Ghosts of the past #2
Oil on canvas / Size 210x210mm / Year 2003
This is another series where I was trying to capture the environment I was in. Sketching out ideas using oil paint. There is a fish in the picture, fish is considered good luck in China. Previous Chinese traditions were eliminated by the party. Ghosts are a huge part of Chinese culture but are considered a superstition and illegal according to the party. A very recent example of this was the banning of Halloween Celebrations in China in 2024. Traditions that the party is not encouraging.
