Title: Panyu Road
Oil on canvas / Size 420mm × 297mm / Year 2002
Painted just after a walk down Panyu Road in the French Concession area where I used to live. This is a very rapid expressionist capture of how the area was perceived by me, the manifestation of noise, people and movement. Including all the characters of that street, the cars, the ‘French trees planted in the 1920s and the ghosts. This is a lovely part of Shanghai and I just wanted to capture the feeling of that moment.
